Daniil Medvedev vs Borna Coric
Borna Coric recorded his career-best result on the grass by lifting the title at ATP Halle two weeks back. He had to defeat Alexander Zverev in the first round and the nine-time ATP Halle champion Roger Federer in the final to win his first title of the season (second career title).
The 21-year-old Croatian, who had won only three matches on grass before 2018, has already won five such matches in 2018 (5/0). He will now look to carry forward the momentum with a good result at Wimbledon, where he has failed to win a match in three of his previous four appearances.
Daniil Medvedev had a disappointing grass season as he could win only two matches in three tournaments. In fact, he has won only three matches since the start of the clay season, against Marton Fucsovics in Monte Carlo, Yuki Bhambri in Hertogenbosch and Jack Sock in London.
The talented Russian, who won nine matches on grass in 2016 and ten in 2017, has gone 2/3 so far in 2018 and will look to improve on it as he makes his third appearance at Wimbledon. Daniil Medvedev had a forgettable finish to Wimbledon 2017, as he lost his cool and threw coins at umpire’s chair after suffering a tough defeat at the hands of Ruben Bemelmans in the second round.
These two players met twice in the inaugural edition of NextGen ATP Finals in 2017 with each winning once. Though Borna Coric won the title at Halle two weeks back, Daniil Medvedev is probably the better player on grass and expect him to have an even chance in this encounter, provided he plays to the best of his ability.
