Naomi Osaka vs Sachia Vickery Tennis Prediction
Naomi Osaka, the reigning Indian Wells champion, is entering the grass season after having a decent clay swing (5-4), which was capped by a third-round appearance at the French Open (d. Kenin and Diyas). It was her fourth consecutive third round at slams.
Osaka debuted at Nottingham last year but suffered a 48-minute first round defeat at the hands of qualifier and world #131 Kristie Ahn (6-1 6-1). She has a 5-6 record in tour-level grass matches, securing her best win on this surface by defeating #23 Strycova at 2017 Wimbledon.
Sachia Vickery is a former quarterfinalist of Nottingham. She reached the last eight in 2015 as a debutante and qualifier, defeating Wang and Diyas (l. eventual champion Konjuh). In the previous two years, however, she has failed to clear the qualifying rounds.
This time around, the American enters the tournament as the world #76, having debuted in the top 100 earlier this year, thanks to her semifinal finishes at Auckland and Monterrey, and a third-round appearance at the Indian Wells (as a qualifier).
In fact, it is at the Indian Wells that Osaka had her first meeting with Vickery en route to the title triumph, defeating the American in routine straight sets (6-3 6-3) in an hour and 21 minutes. The world #20 is expected to prevail this time as well.
Tennis Prediction: Naomi Osaka 2-0 SET
