Roland Garros – one of the most famous Grand Slam tournaments !

The tennis championship was held for the first time in the late 19th century. The history of the name Roland Garros is quite simple, although it has no direct relation to tennis: the tournament got its name in honour of the heroic French pilot, who made the first flight over the Mediterranean Sea and got killed at the very end of the World War I – Roland Garros , also called the French Open, has acquired world fame, becoming international, and has since been entrenched as a competition of the highest level along with other Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open US Open and Wimbledon tournament. This is the most prestigious clay tournament in the season. The specificity of the game on the clay courts is that the rebound of the ball on the ground is not so fast, which is the main reason for the protracted rallies in the matches. Therefore, those tennis players who grew up on clay courts usually have an advantage and often become winners.

Roland Garros is a large-scale tennis complex of the same name in Paris, which includes as many as 24 courts, of which the three most important organise the most important matches. Competitions have been held since 1891, since 1925 they have been open to international tennis players.

The Prize : The prize fund of the competition is 10.464.640 $.

The Location : The matches take place on the central courts of France Philippe Shaterier and on the second most important court Suzanne Lenglen.

The Time : The dates of the French Open vary from year to year, however it is always the last weeks of May – the first weeks of June. This year the tournament will be held between 21.5.2018 – 10.6.2018

The competition is held in a number of categories, but tennis fans are undoubtedly primarily interested in singles winners among men and women.
