Stephane Robert vs Matthew Ebden Tennis Prediction
Matthew Ebden continued his excellent form on grass with a stunning straight-set win over the world #9 David Goffin on Tuesday, 6-4 6-3 6-4. The experienced Australian won around 83% of his first serve points and created eight break points chances on the Belgian’s serve (4/8).
The 30-year-old Australian has played 15 matches on grass so far in 2018 and managed to win 11 of them, which includes back-to-back semifinal appearances at Surbiton Challenger and ATP Hertogenbosch, and a quarterfinal appearance at ATP Eastbourne.
Matthew Ebden’s only previous second-round match here at Wimbledon (total appearances- 6) ended in a straight-set defeat against John Isner in 2017. However, having got a relatively comfortable second-round opponent, he will be hoping to go further this time around.
Stephane Robert made the most of Albert Ramos Vinolas’ recent poor form by handing the Spaniard a straight-set defeat in the first round of Wimbledon, 7-5 6-2 6-1. It was the Frenchman’s fourth win of the week having previously beaten Yannick Hanfmann, Lloyd Glasspool and Luca Vanni in the qualifying stages.
The win against Albert Ramos was the 38-year-old Stephane Robert’s first main draw win in a grand slam since defeating Kevin Anderson in the first round of the French Open 2016, where he lost the following match (R2) to Alexander Zverev. The last time he won a second-round match at this level was at the Australian open 2016, against Rajeev Ram.
Despite being inconsistent with his performances so far in 2018, the Frenchman has managed to win 22 matches, including winning the title at Burnie Challenger and reaching the semifinal at Blois Challenger two weeks back.
Though Stephane Robert and Matthew Ebden have had a similar career (SP- 570/342, ME- 498/331), the Australian’s superior record on grass (88/46 vs 18/15), especially in the last four weeks, makes him the firm favorite in this second round encounter.
Tennis Prediction: Matthew Ebden
