Taylor Fritz vs Benoit Paire Tennis Prediction
Taylor Fritz is already up and running on grass having played four matches at the Surbiton Challenger last week. Despite not producing convincing performances, he managed to win three matches as a qualifier before losing to the eventual runner-up Alex De Minaur in the round of 16.
This is the American’s third appearance at Stuttgart, and his career-best performance on grass came here in 2016 when he reached the round of 16 and took a set off Roger Federer, 4-6 7-5 4-6.
After facing an early exit from the Australian Open (QR2) earlier this season, Taylor Fritz went onto post exceptional results in the following weeks, such as winning the title at Newport Beach Challenger, quarterfinal appearances at Dallas Challenger and Delray Beach and a semifinal appearance at Indian Wells Challenger. It will be interesting to see if he can post similar results now, having lost out early in the French Open (R1).
Despite facing an early exit from the French Open, Benoit Paire would probably be satisfied with his effort as he put in an excellent fighting performance against Kei Nishikori in the second round, 3-6 6-2 6-4 2-6 3-6.
In his previous five appearances at ATP Stuttgart, only once the Frenchman failed to win the first round match, against Benjamin Becker in 2014. Last year, Benoit Paire posted his career-best result on grass when he progressed to the semifinal here in Stuttgart, after defeating the likes of Troicki, Gojowczyk, and Janowicz.
These two players met once in the first round of Indian Wells in 2017 when Taylor Fritz dispatched Benoit Paire in straight sets. However, playing outside of the United States makes this a different and difficult test for the American, but it still remains an evenly poised contest.
